Who we are
Ophir Energy is a British independent upstream oil and gas exploration and production company focused on Asia and Africa. Ophir creates value by finding resources and then monetising them at the appropriate time.
Ophir’s vision is to be the leading independent international oil and gas exploration and production Company.
Ophir’s model for value creation is through the exploration and appraisal phases of the E&P cycle; and through monetising assets at the appropriate time to capture optimum value for shareholders. Our job is to find resources for the minimal capital outlay and then to monetise them for the highest possible price.
In 2014 we took the decision, in consultation with major shareholders, to move towards sustainability. A key part of this financing model is the addition of production assets which generate cash flow to fund exploration and appraisal activity. The acquisition of Salamander Energy in March 2015 was the first step towards achieving this goal.
Ophir in Thailand
Ophir Thailand is the petroleum concessionaire under the supervision of Thailand’s Ministry of Energy – through the Department of Mineral Fuels. We entered into Thailand’s petroleum industry since 2005 and commence our exploration and production of petroleum product (crude oil) in 2008 from our 100% owned Bualuang Field in exploration block B8/38 in the Gulf of Thailand. The field was initially thought to contain 15 million barrels of oil of 2P reserves and have a productive life of approximately 5 years. However, the field has undergone numerous reserve upgrades and by October 2015, it had produced its 25 millionth barrel. Our production from Bualuang Field in 2016 is forecast to be between 8,000 to 9,000 barrels of oil per day.
Moreover, Ophir has a 9.5% operated interest in the Sinphuhorm gas field; onshore Northeast Thailand (held though Ophir’s shareholding in APICO LLC). The production from Sinphuhorm field was commenced in November 2006. The gas and liquid are transported through a 62 km pipeline to a gas processing plant located alongside the Nam Phong power station. The daily contracted quantity is 108 mmscfd and the gas sales agreement runs until 2021 with the potential to be extended by 10 years.
Ophir has over 75 of Thai and expatriate permanent staff and more than 25 national contracting staff working in Thailand. Our head office is located in the CBD of Bangkok Metropolis, with our remote work sites in Sattahip, Chumphon and offshore in the Gulf of Thailand.
